If you have been referred by a GP or a psychiatrist who has prepared a mental health care plan, you are eligible for a medicare rebate of $96.65 per session, for 10 sessions per calendar year. This leaves a gap payment of $93.35 per 50 min session, or $183.35 per 80 min session, after the medicare rebate.
The Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPi) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommend $300 for a 50-minute session. The fees outlined above are under this amount to make sessions more affordable.
Session payments are made using a safe, online practice management software, PowerDiary, used by health professionals. Your credit or debit card details will be collected prior to your first session and stored in PowerDiary for ease of processing. Information regarding PowerDiary's privacy policy can be found here.
Appointments are available both in-person and via telehealth. Telehealth means you have the option of having your appointment by video or phone, offering a flexible way to continue psychology sessions when you can’t attend in-person. PowerDiary is used for telehealth appointments by video.
Medicare Rebates
A Medicare rebate of $93.35 may be applicable with a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP or Psychiatrist. You can receive a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Further information about the Better Access to Mental Health scheme can be found here. You will not be able to access your rebate until a MHTP is provided. Your Medicare rebate will be processed once payment for your session has been received.
To get a referral through Medicare to see a psychologist, you book in at your local GP for an appointment, where the GP will conduct a brief assessment of your mental health and determine whether they recommend that you see a psychologist through a Mental Health Care Plan.
Private Health Insurance
Depending on your Private Health provider and level of cover, you may be able to access a rebate for Psychology services. Please inquire with your provider to determine this. If seeking a Private Health Insurance rebate, you will be provided with a receipt to claim with your provider following payment of your session.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Session Fee (1 hour) - $214.41
Report Writing (1 hour) - $214.41
NDIS fees are set and reviewed annually by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and come out of your NDIS Plan (Improved Daily Living). There is no gap fee for participants. NDIS funded services are available to plan- and self-managed consumers only.
POLICY FOR MISSED APPOINTMENTS, RESCHEDULES AND CANCELLATIONS
Medicare rebated and private pay appointments
Our policy for missed appointments, reschedules and cancellations is set in line with the recommendations for private practice from our psychology peak bodies (Australian Association of Psychologists inc, Australian Psychological Society). This policy is necessary to ensure that Collector Psychology can continue to operate as a small business.
Full session fees are charged if you give less that 24 hours notice for non-attendances, cancellations and rescheduling of appointments.
If you give notice within 48 hours, only 50% of the usual fee will be charged.
Please note that Medicare do not provide rebates for sessions not attended.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
In line with NDIS guidelines set by the Federal Government, a late cancellation is anything less than 2 clear business days notice. If you cancel late or do not attend an appointment, your NDIS Plan will be charged the session fee for that appointment.
SMS appointment reminders are sent 48 hours prior to your session to assist.
