Approach to therapy
I offer one-on-one individual therapy for adult clients. As a psychologist, I aim to offer a down-to-earth, authentic, practical and warm approach to therapy. I enjoy developing real and meaningful connections with clients, where we are both in the process together working collaboratively towards their therapeutic goals until they’re at a place where they no longer need me alongside them.
Although I am always most curious about the impact of early adverse experiences and attachment relationships on current mental health and functioning, I work at the clients pace and do not expect clients to disclose this information unless they feel ready to do so.
The questions I’m always curious about (and which clients don’t need to know the answer to just yet):
What experiences have you had along the way that lead you here?
How have those experiences impacted you and how do they continue to linger in your life now?
What are the function of any unwanted behaviours you might engage in?
Where do you want to go from here to live a meaningful values-based life?
I enjoy working with a range of mental health concerns, though have a particular interesting trauma-based work. As a result, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy has become a cornerstone of my practice. I've witnessed firsthand its ability to help clients process traumatic experiences, break free from past traumas, and pave the way for a brighter, more fulfilling future.
My approach to therapy involves a balance between:
Short-term relief of symptoms of mental illness, with a focus on mindfulness and values-driven behaviour change.
Long-term growth, healing and self-discovery through understanding and processing early adverse experiences, attachment disruption, and trauma.
